Stop slugs munching away at all your prized plants by placing a key natural material around them that slugs have a hatred for.Slug on plant

Deter slugs so they never enter your garden with 1 ‘perfect natural repellent’ they hate

Slugs seem to be that garden pest that really drives people crazy. They hide in the daytime, and at night, while we sleep, they manage to sneak out and devour lovingly planted vegetables and even simple flowers.

Slugs are active for most of the year but are a particular problem in spring, when there’s plenty of young growth for them to eat. What’s more, given the recent wet weather, you may see more slugs active than usual.

But gardeners don’t need to sit there and let those slimy pests steal their precious plants; it’s time for some action.

According to two gardening experts, the key to deterring slugs is through laying down wool, particularly sheep’s wool.

Davies Brothers Nursery posted a video on Facebook in which they shared the “many benefits of using sheep’s wool in your garden”.

The number one use of sheep’s wool, they noted, was its “great” ability to “repel” slugs and snails from gardens.

They said: “It [the wool] stops slugs and snails, and as it rots down, it releases nitrogen into the soil so it feeds your plants as well.”

As slugs move on their slime, anything super dry is difficult for them to move on, and wool is one of those materials.

Sellers of sheep wool at Chimney Sheep also highlighted the use of wool to deter slugs. They said: “Slugs hate wool, which makes it the perfect natural slug repellent.

“They hate the texture and the prickly surface, which means they steer clear. So, barricade your most vulnerable plants with wool.”

They also pointed out that the great thing about using wool is that it actually “benefits your plants in lots of other ways too”.

The pros explained: “It adds lots of nutrients to the soil as it composts down, has excellent moisture-retaining properties, and the wool shield also deprives weeds of light, so it helps to keep those at bay too.”
