hi from my Massachusetts garden!! last year I adopted this community garden plot and found out that it had asparagus growing (2nd slide) not sure if it’s wild asparagus or not! the plot when I took it wasn’t in great condition so idk. anyways here’s what it looks like today, just popped out of the ground over the course of the last couple days!
any idea what year this asparagus is on? 2? 3?
thank you asparagus expert out there !

From my experience starting asparagus from seed, I think the second photo (skinny little things) was year 2, and the first photo is year 3. If you’re very very curious and eager you can eat that one and let its next regrowth grow on, or you could follow instructions and leave it to grow from now on through the season.
One plant is never going to really produce a serious amount of asparagus or enough to take home and cook. Luckily it’s delicious raw right in the garden.
Asparagus, once established, is a great ratio of produce compared to work (almost none after established) but a poor ratio of produce compared to space taken.
