This is probably the very first native plant I planted. Five ish years ago. Aronia melanocarpa. SE Pennsylvania.

It's spent most of that time looking pretty dull (granted it had a rough first year before I figured out I should cage it to protect it from deer, at least until it gets bigger). But I've done my best to take care of it.

Last year I really started filling out the rest of the bed around it, including adding a bunch of mulch and adding drip irrigation. I feel like it's saying "thank you."

I'm over the moon.

    Whenever i see my plants flower for the first time, i start tapping my fingers together like mr burns, and utter something along the lines of “yes, go my children, procreate and consume the invasives, yes.”

    Planted two tiny black chokeberries in my yard last summer. This spring they are growing and both flowered. I’m in Kansas City and they are happy here. 🙂
