I collected a few hawthorn saplings 2 years ago—the first year in a pot with original soil and the second year repotted into a training pot, with my bonsai mix and some root pruning. It's a gift for my mother-in-law, who has few “indoor” bonsais, and I need to give away some trees, as it's really time-consuming to take care of 40 trees. 😅 I did its first wiring and structural pruning today, and it looks surprisingly nice for the fact that it's not the best sapling I collected.

  1. Nice example. If I can just throw out an opinion. I always prefer a bonsai that has trunk movement to have it’s apex somewhat over it’s nebari. I know this is just starting it’s journey but now is the time to determine it’s future.
