Hey all,

I’m wondering if anyone can tell me how much at risk the retaining wall is with these yucca trees. I have about 20 of them around the perimeter of the house. All on top of retaining wall at different heights.

Ideally I’d like to keep them. I don’t think tree cells would have been installed by previous owners so worried the roots and trunk will push out the sleepers. I was starting to behead them to reduce the height and weight, but I think this would just slow down the inevitable.

Any advice appreciated. We are waiting on response from structural engineer.

First rule of r/GardeningAustralia – Get rid of Yuccas.

    They will cause damage eventually.

You can’t even give away yuccas for free. Ditch them before they cost you serious money.

Destroy, remove, eliminate with great prejudice! Beheading them will only promote more heads to emerge.

This was the first thing I did when I moved into my house – removed all these horrible plants!

Leave them be. The paper wasps and snails love nesting on those

Before you proceed I’d recommend getting an arborist in for a consultation. It could be that your yuccas are stabilising your retaining wall. Wishing you all the best!
