Planted last spring, did well thru summer and fall. In winter, a deer debarked it about 180 degrees and half the lower trunk. I wrapped it for the remainder of winter. There are buds now, but they haven’t bloomed while other dog woods in the area have. There are leaf buds too, but no leaves, while other dog woods have them.
Location: southern Ohio. Tree was originally in burlap, and survived at least 2.5 seasons well. Watering regularly since frosts ended. Mostly sun, although it is at the top of a hill. Roots are fully covered (professional did the planting).
Should I give up and try again with a new tree?
