Moved into our house last August. Noticed the lower branch on the right was dead, was going to cut that off soon, but then noticed a lot more dead branches up top this Spring. Last August the tree seemed pretty full besides that lower set of branches. Tips? Just hire a tree company to cut the dead sections off or should I wait and see how it grows?

It’s likely too dry for a willow there and that’s why it’s struggling. People plant them because they’re pretty, but not understanding they grow in swamps and on shorelines, often in the water itself and no amount of hose and sprinkler water will satisfy them once they reach a larger size. The only time they really do well in yards away from a body of water is if the yard has drainage issues and commonly has standing water, they can be used to manage that if other options aren’t available, but it doesn’t look like that’s the case here

You can cut it down to a stump and in two years you will have a tree again thats 20 feet tall
