Bought a new build three years ago and quickly realized there was a section of our yard that hardly got direct sunlight and thus stayed moist year round. With two large dogs I refused to have a mud pit for them to play in.
The solution, two Dwarf Palmettos to grow into the space over the next few years. The space surrounding them was sprinkled with native wildflower seeds and some native grasses to assist sucking the moisture out of the ground. All in all, the plan has been working, though our left palmetto is a bit stunted due to being the pee spot until we could break the habit. The wildflowers have BOOMED, honestly, it’s a bit much. But I wanted a space for nature to do its thing, and that’s what has happened.
Now onto the question, this year, literally in the past two weeks. This giant spike has grown out of the right palmetto. I’ve learned this will turn into a bloom, but, uh, how tall are we getting before flowering!?
Dog tax and full bloom picture is from the tail end of last summer.

How big were your palms when you first planted them? I planted some in the fall and I don’t really have any idea what to expect in terms of how fast they’ll grow!
