What is the risk level of trying to cut this tree down myself? I’m not a forestry professional. Assuming a tree service would be the safe option, but I’m tempted.
Yeah. Uh. Walk away from this one and call somebody.

They call these widowmakers for a reason. These are some of the most dangerous and unpredictable jobs, even for the professionals sometimes, while appearing easy enough from the outside that a lot of people try it themselves. It’s a bad combination

Looks fun I would do that no hesitation

That’s gotta lot of potential! A hellva lot of potential to kill ya, mostly due to the potential kinetic energy stored there. Call a professional friend. This is not a do it yourself job.

The only way to safely DIY this job is is you have a tractor or winch and can yank that sucker down from afar, to the ground and cut it up. Then drop the remaining part.

That dog needs a human. Don’t do it.

I mean it’s not required, you can do this yourself. However, I would not recommend someone who doesn’t do this for a living with the right equipment and knowledge of rigging. This job is more than just a chainsaw job.

How is this even a question?

If there’s any job worth hiring out, its this one, seems like an easy way to get killed or damage your home to save a few bucks

Rope saw with 2 people standing 100 feet from either side holding the rope hypothetically saw it and it will drop.
NOT recommending this for liability reasons just what I personally do.
