We had this massive bush of this plant when we moved in and dug it out but it always comes back. We want to plant other things here, potentially herbs so don't really want to use round up or equivalents to kill the plant. Any other suggestions?

Looks like Singapore daisy. Dicamber spray will kill it. Might need a few treatments as it’s possibly coming from next door.

    Looks like acanthus regrowing.
Sorry, I don’t know how to get rid of it.

  3. Omg it’s oyster plant. Excavated our garden bed 2 weekends ago to get rid of this. Any cut segment will germinate to a new plant and they spread via rhizomes. They turn very weedy.

We are renting so not sure if it started from our side and ended up to the neighbours side but to stop it, we had to put a root barrier beneath the fence upon excavating as we saw it connected to our neighbours yard beneath the soil.

Yours look more manageable. Do the same now or it’ll be a nightmare to deal with.Pulling it out by hand just breaks it and creates more plants.

Hey! I dont think this is Singapore daisy. It looks much more like Acanthus mollis, in Australia it is commonly called an oyster plant. It grows from tuberous roots, if even a small part of the tuber is left in the soil it will regenerate into a new plant. To get rid of it you have to dig out the tubers. It is a Mediterranean perrenial (so non native), and sold in nurseries as an exotic

Cut it to the ground and cover that bit of ground with cardboard and mulch over the top.
