For the few dozen trees and grape vines that I have planted I find a post hole digger works very well
Wow you have planted a Lot of trees and by hand!
@David
Hey, great to see you finally got a solid auger with digging lots of holes as you clearly do.
I do hope your business is going well for you π
peace to you
I was thinking about getting one of the little augers that go on a drill but I like yours better
Beautiful tractor and auger π
I now Texas is different than where you are at, but I know many people drill 2 holes next to each other to ensure the soil is loose and it avoids auger "walls" causing circular girdling. Picture a figure 8 when looking down with the middle being removed to create a larger hole. Love the videos!
Thanks for trading at Keepers of the Old Ways!
Love Petals from the Past. Its about 30 min from me. Cool to hear you shout them out!
I don't think that the zero turn is designed for that warranty voidedππ. We all know y'all always practice perfect panting practices. Pray y'all get some rain.
Now you need an augur. Or did an augur tell you to buy an auger?
Big congrats on the auger! We're gonna have to buy a tractor and an auger and a bushhog and a windrow and a baler because of you! I called my husband into the room and he had so much envy. And my back hurts from planting trees, so… yeah.
I'm kind of terrified of this drought, this time of year. I could see this in August or September in a year without a hurricane, but in March/April ??!! I downloaded a wildfire danger management diagram where it tells you cut back all vegetation within 5 feet of your house, and goes out in radii with how you should manage your stuff near your house to prevent wildfire from burning your house down, since we live in the woods.
It's making me want to replace the mulch in my greenhouse from pine bark to pea gravel, since the greenhouse is right up against the south side of the house.
We're on the exact same lattitude as you, in Louisiana, you get our weather 5 hours later. My garden looks crispy like yours.
The next week my husband has vacation, I want to make the drive and go shopping with you.
It's awesome to see that auger in action! There's an old Massey Ferguson i may have to buy in order to use an auger to plant all the trees i want.
Keep planting trees like a boss! I need to get down to Zone 8 sometime lol
QUESTIONS: Hey David, I took your advice and cracked open some pits and got some cherries, apricots, etc to germinate in the fridge. How deep should I plant them into pots? And how warm does it need to be outside for them to be successful?
Heck yeah man, what a blessing.
Auger = another broken tool I have to spend garden or sleep time to repair.
Cool that you have the skills to fix things. As for me, patience isnβt a virtue, hurry the heck up is a virtue lol.
You are compacting the soil so the roots can't go very deep. This is only partially solved by the hole you're digging. This machine both creates the problem and a partial solution to it.
Awesome ππππππππ
David has been doing math on the chalkboard again…
Auger, or vertical tilling. Nice seeing your Auguration Day.
Wild lettuce is medicine
My husband has rented a gas powered auger a few times, that's fast, I can only imagine how fast the tractor attachment goes. We are just east of you by about 80 miles . Praying for rain. Planning a trip to visit your store.
I saw sugar cane in there being run over. What's up with that? I'm in Illinois and can't grow sugar cane. That was upsetting but I still enjoy watching your channel.
Satsumas and kumquats under an oak tree? I believe a gentleman at Atmore Farm and Garden told me the same thing. Good advice.
Remember to scarify walls of hole so you donβt just end up with big pot π
Know anybody with a couple shell of alabama apple trees for sale?
