I am planning my first paludarium. I made a paper mache mock-up of the hardscape so I could better envision what it will look like.
It features open water in the front and on the right side with a cave snaking through the middle and on the left side. Water sections will be 7 inches deep. Caves will be fully submerged (6 inches)
I will use leca to fill the void space and will start placing soil at 9 inched (top of the paper mache walls)
Both land and water will be planted.
I plan on having some shrimp and possibly some nano fish in the water sections.
I plan on having some vampire crabs on the land, along will springtails, isopods, etc.
Does anyone see any glaring issues or have a recommendations?

I was gonna make a joke about the lack of water and soil but this is actually turning out pretty good so far friend 🙂
I like it! What are you going to make the hardscale out of ?
Make sure to seal the shit of the land portions to prevent water going in. I’ve had major issues with that before. Do water tests before adding soil.
Also, IIRC vampire crabs need 70% land 30% water and need a lot of foliage and cover. They are more land creatures than aquatic, so do your research to see if they’re a fit for this build. Also be mindful that isopods drown and it might also to small of a space for them.
This looks great! Please update us as you go. ♥️
Make sure the crabs have lots of ways to climb in and out of water or they’ll drown.
Always keep in mind how hard it will be to clean later.
Keep updating, I want to follow this build.
