LEXINGTON — The Global Roots Community Garden will hold its grand opening in Lexington on Friday, May 8.
“Global Roots is a farming program offered by Lutheran Family Services (LFS) that supports
refugees and new populations. Since 2020, the program has helped farmers grow their cultural foods and achieve food security,” per LFS.
The garden will be located at 801 N. Lincoln St. and the grand opening event will run from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.
“Everyone is welcome to learn more about Global Roots. We will provide light refreshments,
community resources, and a welcoming space to connect. All ages are welcome. The event is free,” per LFS.
Global Roots Provides:
Access to land. Each farmer gets to farm a 50 x 50-foot plot.
In-the-field technical agricultural support. Our team assists farmers with production, pest management, soil health assessments, and harvesting.
Access to tools and equipment.
Development markets for crops.
Educational workshops on horticultural themes including crop rotation, indoor seed starting, and GAP food safety.
