Comedian Zach Galifianakis will premiere his new documentary series, This Is a Gardening Show, on Netflix on April 22, 2026, to coincide with Earth Day. The production features the actor investigating food harvesting techniques alongside local farmers and children throughout British Columbia’s Vancouver Island and the Gulf Islands.
The series explores diverse agricultural environments including orchards, berry forests, and corn fields. Galifianakis, a hobby gardener for 25 years, filmed segments at various locations such as Brooklyn Elementary School in Comox and local farms in the region.
According to CBC News, the show blends the comedian’s signature off-beat humor with practical agriculture discussions. The project aims to reconnect viewers with the land while addressing food security concerns for future generations.

“I also have young kids, and where food comes from these days seems very not good for them,” said Zach Galifianakis, Executive Producer and Host. “For kids to be ignited by this is really my main goal.”
Arzeena Hamir, co-owner of Amara Farm and a food security advocate, told CBC News that the timing of the series is critical due to global food prices. Hamir noted that the show’s quirky approach could attract a new audience to the concept of growing their own food.
Reports from Exclaim! indicate that while the show focuses on Vancouver Island, Galifianakis currently resides on nearby Denman Island. The series serves as a tribute to the long-standing gardening traditions of the British Columbia coastal region.

Galifianakis intends for the program to help younger audiences adapt to potential environmental shifts. The series trailer, released by Netflix Tudum, highlights guest appearances from various foragers and professional growers across the southern B.C. islands.
