Comedian Zach Galifianakis will premiere his new documentary series, “This Is a Gardening Show,” on Netflix on April 22, 2026, to coincide with Earth Day. The production explores food sustainability and backyard harvesting through visits to orchards, forests, and cornfields across the Vancouver Island region.

According to reports from CBC News, the series features interviews with local farmers and students to highlight the tradition of gardening in British Columbia. Galifianakis, a hobby gardener for 25 years, filmed segments at locations including Brooklyn Elementary School in Comox and various sites across the Gulf Islands.

“I also have young kids, and where food comes from these days seems very not good for them. For kids to be ignited by this is really my main goal,” said Zach Galifianakis, Creator and Host. He noted that teaching children to grow food provides essential tools for adapting to future climate challenges.

The series features local agricultural experts such as Arzeena Hamir, co-owner of Amara Farm in the Comox Valley. As reported by Exclaim!, Hamir stated the show’s timing is critical due to rising global food prices and increased public interest in food security.

The production reportedly blends practical agricultural advice with the sardonic humor Galifianakis established in previous works like “Between Two Ferns.” While CBC News identifies the setting as Vancouver Island, Exclaim! noted the actor currently resides on nearby Denman Island.

Netflix Tudum confirmed the show will guide viewers through diverse landscapes, including berry-filled forests, to demonstrate how to reconnect with the land. The series aims to attract a broad audience to the concept of food cultivation through its offbeat documentary format.
