Located in Massachusetts and i had a lawn care service come and do spring cleanup. They did leaf cleanup and were supposed to dethatch the lawn.

I’m a new homeowner and am learning the ropes around proper lawncare, so I just want to make sure I got what I paid for.

Based off of the pictures provided does it seem like they Dethatched the lawn well?

I was expecting to see a lot of the brown grass pulled up completely as part of the process, but I might just have the wrong expectation.

Unfortunately I don’t have any pics of the lawn before they did the work.

Looks fine, my guess if they know what they are doing they bag it all and haul away or you’d have one hell of a mess in your back yard

From my experience with dethatching, this does not look like they did a great job. It’s hard to tell though because the grass is very tall, but they may not have set it too low for fear of ripping up healthy grass. They should have mowed low then dethatched.

Edit- your lawn may not have needed to be dethatched. Was the lawn spongy before? And last season did it have a tough time growing. Dethatching removes dead organic material. That lawn may just be dormant and will green up in the next few weeks. Thatch is below and on the soil.

Yes. Because it’s highly unlikely you had any real thatch to begin with.

Regardless if you needed a dethatching or not, the grass needs to be cut way shorter before dethatching. Wasted effort.

Real hard to tell but looks pretty decent. All that brown is just grass that is still dormant. It’ll come back soon.

dethatching is an internet fad. while you’re at it get a soil test. also worthless.

It looks like the did the work but you did get scammed because dethatching is a complete waste of time and money. Just core aerate for the same effect at 10% the effort.
