Photo 1 is last year, photo 2 is this year after the owner had a relative move in and help with their yard.

I just need someone to commiserate with on this tree, which I've always loved looking at.

    What is this called? Dog something right? I thought about doing a couple of these in my back yard but they’re pricey

    Looks like they’re training it to be shorter and wider? People like going for specific tree shapes which will mean a couple rough trims like this if you aren’t keeping up with it regularly.  I personally am not a fan but can see the vision long term

    That’s an ornamental crab apple. They’re supposed to be pruned every two years at a minimum, and this looks like it hasn’t been worked on in a while.

    With fruit bearing trees folks usually have them pruned in the winter before they blossom so that you don’t lose fruit, but in this case that’s not really a consideration
