I bought this Philodendron Melanochrysum (I think?) with healthy bottom roots, but everything closer to the stem turned out to be rotten

In case I won't be able to grow the roots back and it starts dying, would cutting and rooting the node with the leaves make a new plant? Or is that a spent node? I'm quite new to that and want to make sure before I grab scissors

If I were to root it in water, would the cut on main stem (I bought it this way) be prone to rot? Can it stay submerged?

I would put it in wet spagh up to the next node. If the bottom is spent then it will just root from the next node up

Just put it in water enough to cover the next node and let it do its thing, even if it takes a long time

Edit: I believe the node will still regrow roots, and the vine can keep growing from the next points up
