Mae S. Batchelor
(nee Nelson) On April 11,2026, age 89 of Haddonfield, NJ. Beloved wife of the late Jon D.; Devoted mother of Judi (Bill) Bayer of Washington Crossing, PA, John N. of Philadelphia, PA and Janet (Robert) DePersia of Cherry Hill, NJ; Loving grandmother of Brittany, William & Paige Bayer, Robert III, Nicholas, Michael & Natalie DePersia; Dear sister of the late Ralph Gullikson and sister-in-law Ruth Gullikson.
Born in Brooklyn, NY in 1936, Mae’s early life was rooted in Norwegian culture. Her parents were Norwegian emigrants that settled in the Bay Ridge section of Brooklyn. Mae and her older brother Ralph became avid Brooklyn Dodgers fans as they would watch the games thru the chain link fence at Ebbett’s Field.
Mae’s family eventually moved to Haddonfield, NJ, where she spent most of her adult life. She attended Haddonfield Memorial High School, graduating in 1954. She played field hockey and basketball and met her husband of 66 years, Jon. Jon was a graduate of the U.S. Naval Academy. They married in 1959 and they made their home in Virginia, Connecticut and Maryland before returning to Haddonfield.
Mae was a dedicated Navy wife which later turned into the wife of a football coach. Mae loved spending time with her grandchildren, playing the organ for her husband and their dogs. She also had a passion for watercolor painting, ceramics and gardening.
Mae’s family will receive friends & relatives on Saturday, April 18, 2026, 2-3 pm at The Lutheran Church of Our Savior, 204 Wayne Ave, Haddonfield, NJ 08033, where her Memorial Service will follow at 3 PM. Interment private. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Mae’s memory to the Haddonfield High School Athletic Department. Checks can be mailed to HMHS Athletics, 401 Kings Highway East, Haddonfield, NJ 08033.
