Just transplanted a lil corn patch about a week ago into ground soil, and am now noticing some spots have what seems to be two corn stalks in them.

Should I separate my little corn babies so they all have the space they need? Or are they fine together?

edit: just wanted to add each photo I posted is from a different plant! So I have 3 total that look like this 👀

It’s tempting to keep them, but they are heavy feeders and neither plant will produce very well. Thinning is the best method here. Especially if there are only 3 doubles.

Yes. Without being dramatic, you must sacrifice one for the sake of the other. It is a noble and unfortunate task.

Did you plant 2 seeds per plant? There are actually some dwarf corns that branch into multiple stalks… If they are indeed from 2 separate seeds, I agree with the other comments. A note though, you will have to hand pollinate your corn silks. 3 plants is not sufficient for wind pollination. Corn is planted tightly in blocks because of how it is pollinated.
