hi all, this little guy came from a seed mix sown in october. it’s my only argyroderma, so i have some questions:

this is already the second leaf change since its cotyledons. is that normal, or a sign i’ve overwatered?

as it’s on its way to shedding the outer leaves, i’ve been reducing water, but i noticed recently that the inner leaf pair got super wrinkly so i gave it a good drink. it’s plumping back up a bit, but it seems weird that it got wrinkly while the outer leaves are still so fleshy.

finally, should i expect these to sheath over like a conophytum?

Water when the inner leaves look wrinkled!

Don’t soak, don’t bottom water, they *will* crack.

You can give it a resting period when it’s hottest out, but if it’s under like 4 months old it probably won’t need to go dormant for the summer. Just balance your watering, and if you’re only watering when the inner leaves need it, it shouldn’t have any problem absorbing the old leaves.

And no, they don’t sheath over like some conos. More like lithops, but pretty much what you see here is how the leaf change goes. If you over water it, it will open the fissure and that’s a sign that you’ve given too much water. The inner leaves here as you can see on yours are still flush together. Does that make sense?
