If you watch a lot of animal and pet TikToks, chances are you’ve seen a few of Chewy, the huge Newfoundland dog whose favorite human is his 96-year-old Grandma Barbara, who lives right next door to them. The two spend a lot of time together, and their videos are always endearing.
In this video, Grandma Barbara is getting ready to start planting some flowers for a spring garden. Instead of having to get down on her knees and dig holes, which is hard even for healthy, younger adults to do, she enlisted the help of Chewy, who happily digs all of the holes for her!
Who wouldn’t want Chewy’s help in the garden! Chewy’s mom pointed out in the caption, “He knows exactly what she’s saying.” Of course he does! The two of them are best friends!

Sweet Reactions to Chewy the Newfie Helping His Grandma Dig Holes in the Garden
Like us, everybody adored watching the giant Newfie help his tiny grandma in the garden; her flowers looked beautiful in the end! The video has more than 11 million views, 2.4 million likes, and over 6,000 comments. To say it went viral is an understatement!
@paigealexx got 116,000 likes when she shared, “And then he dug a hole where grandma said…” @Tiffany Alley cried all the tears and got more than 46,000 likes when she pointed out, “You did a good job, Chewy”.
Everybody laughed, and @Lici got 130,000 likes when she joked, “I just know she feeds him premium deli meats…”
A ton of big brands showed up to comment, too. @Rover shared, “Grandma’s not so little helper!” @Burt’s Bees called them the “Duo I never knew I needed.” @Chewy chimed in with, “Focused, determined, and adorable all at once. Such a great helper!” @Once Upon a Farm said, “He’s such a good boy”, and @Nature Made gave him, “A+ gardening skills there—you can tell he has so much love and support for grandma!”
@thatsoovibes got more than 75,000 likes when they said, “This needs to be a children’s book.” Chewy’s mom replied, “I need to do ‘Adventures of Grandma and Chewy’.
