I have loved Thaumatophyllum Bipinnatifidum since I was a little kid when my grandmother had two massive ones standing sentry on either side of their front door. When I bought my first house, the first two plants I bought for out front were those. I wasn't into plants at that time and had little idea how to care for them. I learned what they liked over a couple years and through my then new job doing commercial landscaping. They got really big and I was into really decorative beds around my house, then I was into succulents heavily for a long time. About 3 years ago, I started collecting aroids, using moss poles, yada yada. When I began to delve into more unusual and expensive aroids, I discovered variegated Bipinnatifidums and really, really wanted one. They were really expensive then and I eventually splurged on importing a tiny pup from Vietnam. it had one leaf and still grew pretty well in a little 10g humidified aquarium in my spare bedroom. I finally moved it out to my greenhouse when I felt confident in its size. It has grown so well and I recently separated 2 nicely colored pups from the base that I will grow out to sell, with 2 more beautiful ones getting bigger at the base. This is not my most expensive, not even the most beautiful of all my variegated plants, but it has been my secret favorite this whole time. I check on her everyday immediately after work. When I finish the raised beds in my new greenhouse, she will get a bed all to herself so I can watch her grow massive.

nice! first ‘selloum’ i’ve ever seen variegated. i’ve had the regular for years. until their size became too much of a pita. (only a 900 sq ft house, hehe).

(and i think it’s been placed back into philodendron, fwiw).
