ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. – Work has started on the Santa Barbara-Martineztown Community Garden, a project focused on local food access.
Crews threw the first shovelfuls of dirt on the project on Monday.
The garden is being built in a vacant lot north of Santa Barbara Park near Edith and Kinley.
It will be built in phases.
The first phase will include garden boxes, irrigation infrastructure, pathways and shade structures.
The garden will give people a place to get together and grow food.
