LYONS — State Police have charged a Lyons man accused of assaulting a man and a woman with metal garden stakes at their home.
Philip M. Galek, 33, was charged with first-degree burglary, a class B felony,; second-degree burglary, a class C felony; and two counts of second-degree assault, a class D felony.
Troopers said they were dispatched to a home on Route 14 about 9 p.m. Sunday for a reported burglary in progress.
Police said Galek allegedly struck a male victim multiple times with a metal garden stake outside the residence, injuring him. The victim fled into his home, but allegedly Galek entered the home by breaking through glass doors while armed with the metal stake. He continued the assault, police said.
Troopers said Galek subsequently fled, but returned a short time later, where he allegedly pursued the male victim and a female victim into a garage and hit them multiple times with two metal garden stakes, causing further injuries.
Troopers said they arrived on the scene and took Galek into custody without incident.
Police said both victims sustained non-life-threatening injuries, including bruising and abrasions.
Galek was taken to the Wayne County Jail for arraignment, police said. As of Monday afternoon, he was still listed as incarcerated.
