Hello everyone! I have these two cool trees (first is a sageretsia and second is a carmona) im really eager to get on the way and be a really great bonsai. I already did a little bit of selecting on both of them in terms of the branches and general cleaneup but im doubting whether i should repot them into a smaller pond basket to get a nice nebari started or whether i should leave them be and just focus on getting the to work done on the branches aspect of things
A little bit of extra info: the first one was completely bare as of 2 weeks ago so the foliage is still hardening of atm and the second one u can see green buds swelling all over the place
What i really wanna do is with the first one in terms of the canopy is get the thick stump cut away and the branches pruned back and get more ramification for the broom style. And eventually get to work on the nice root flair and root selection (again the question here is whether repotting and root work is worth it (sinds it seems pretty damn healthy)?
The second one has the primary branches i really like and it getting new branches all over the place. I would love to get it to thicken up at the base and get a nice radial rootbase to match the nice pads its already starting to create. (The question here would if im better of repotting and getting into the root selection or whether im better off doing a bit of harder branch work by removing the stump and a bit more unwanted branches and leave the roots be)
Thanks so much in advance!

I have a non-traditional way of doing things, but if it were me I would repot into a bigger grow-out pot. Even if you’re not looking to go any bigger with the final tree a larger pot will help with nebari, taper, etc.
And then you go back down to a display pot after you’ve developed your structure
