as far as i know, their roots don’t grow too wide, but i still wanted to get a second opinion in case there’s risk of overcrowding

    Depending on your variety,kale can get large. Read the package. Spinach looks fine

    Kale generally needs at least a foot between plants, preferably two, although I’m not sure about every variety. If this is a dwarf one you might not need to space as much, and it’ll sort of bonsai in smaller pots anyway, but it likely needs more room. Agreed with the other commenter that the seed packet should detail this variety’s needs. Spinach can get large- I had some plants about ten inches across last year- but you can keep it compact with routine harvesting. This looks pretty tight but it’s not as big a deal as with a larger plant.
