We intended to plant this Anacacho Orchid in this part of this (new) garden but it doesn’t seem to like the spot. Has lost all flowers and some leaves. Luckily we haven’t planted it yet so we can move it to the side yard or back yard. So now we need to find something that will tolerate a spot with sun until mid afternoon and some wind. Hubby doesn’t want a tree so- big shrub? Any ideas?

Smaller than the anacacho orchid, white mistflower aka shrubby boneset would be a butterfly powerhouse and can handle sun to part shade.

For the sake of simplicity and fast results, i’m just gonna vote Esperanza. Practically un-killable once established and you cut it back the ground every year so you can pretty much dictate how big and in which direction it grows. You can find them at most HEBs this time of year in little pots for like $6 and that would probably be over head height by the fall. Year 2-3 once established they’ll probably make it up to your roof line before dying back each year.
