Fruit trees offer a brilliant way to brighten up any garden while providing fresh, homegrown produce without the need for supermarket trips. While larger varieties such as apple, pear and plum trees require more substantial outdoor areas, a ‘Van’ cherry tree is a compact alternative, ideal for patios or smaller gardens.
On Yimbly, an e-commerce platform owned by the Daily Express parent company Reach PLC, a spring discount code (SPRING10) allows customers to purchase this Marshalls Garden Patio Fan-trained Cherry Tree for £29.70. This undercuts prices at both B&Q and the Marshalls Garden website.

The Van cherry tree is a well-loved variety, celebrated for producing large, firm fruits that mature during mid-summer. It’s prized for its sweet taste and adaptability to domestic gardens, where the harvest can be enjoyed fresh, transformed into jam, baked into pies, churned into ice cream and much more. It’s worth noting that this cherry tree needs another cherry tree from group 3 planted nearby for successful fruit production.
Alternative cherry tree varieties are available elsewhere, such as the Summer Sun Patio Cherry Tree from Gardening Express, currently reduced to £49.99 from £69.99, which can yield an abundance of red, glossy cherries by mid to late July.

Another option is the Patio Cherry ‘Little Stella’ Tree, reduced to £29.99 from £39.99 at Your Garden. Buyers report being ‘very impressed with the quality’ and say they ‘can’t wait for fruits’.
Although the Van variety of cherry tree has yet to receive reviews on Yimbly, Marshalls Garden boasts plenty of feedback. One reviewer described it as ‘looks great’, while another praised its ‘good growth’.
One purchaser expressed disappointment after it arrived ‘smaller than expected’, but a satisfied customer hailed it as ‘faultless all round’ and a ‘healthy looking tree’.
Beyond its practical fruit-bearing qualities, the cherry tree also appears ‘amazing’ and creates an attractive focal point in any garden. According to Yimbly, it’s particularly well-suited for training against walls, fences or similar flat surfaces, making it an excellent choice for compact gardens where space is at a premium, reports the Express.
