I was given this hydrangea in 2098 when we moved to a new apartment in NYC. since I had a balcony, I out it outside every summer and brought it back in. When we moved to a house, I stuck it in the ground and it's been beautiful. Working on spring clean up and I pulled half a yard waste bag of dead wood out of it. Loving how many shoots there are already! Photo from June 2025 as reference for how it'll look again in a couple of months.

Hello there time traveler! Greetings from the past. Looks like a beautiful hydrangea. Just be careful with the pruning. They bloom primarily on old wood (last years growth) and those dead-looking twigs may actually be alive and well. I only prune off the dead flowers and leave the stalks until end of April when I can clearly see what will leaf out and what will not.

The fact that the OP hasn’t acknowledged any of the time traveler jokes is killing me

    2008, not 2098 but now I can’t edit it – whoops!

Love it! I have this same hydrangea that I still need to bring to my house from my mom’s. I planted pink ones in my front garden bed in March, too. 😊

How big was your plant when you first put it in the ground? How many years did it take to get this big?

We’re planning on doing hydrangeas eventually but I’m not sure how many to do!
