Welcome to corporate plant sales. If it helps remember they are all clones of plants that are still alive. That’s what I told myself when I had to toss plants when I worked for a certain big box plant company

    Oh no!

There wasnt an option to toss them NEXT to the compactor and then take a lunch break?

Must be Walmart… I’ve been telling my enemies I wish they’d be reincarnated as a plant destined to be “sold” at Walmart.

My moms entire front yard is filled with flower and plants that home depot puts next to their dumpster. They throw away so many plants and just good material in general I don’t know how they turn a profit.

I want to go dumpster diving to a Home Depot for those black plastic pots. Any advice to get the good from people working at corporate plants? 🪴

  9. They could seriously some brownie points by donating them somewhere. Schools. Libraries. Community centers. Senior homes. Assisted living. I dunno man. Capitalism sucks, I’m ready for something new.

I worked for a big box garden/plant section for a summer and the sickening amount of plants and flowers we threw away each day was heartbreaking. I won’t really buy plants now because of this.

There was a variegated philodendron in my office that I really liked. I wanted some cuttings.

When the plant lady came around to trim the plant I asked if she could let me have the trimmings.

Nope, she can’t give me cuttings, they have to be thrown away.

She clipped the plant, but before she left she threw the cuttings in my trash basket.

    Thanks!

This was interesting to learn. They don’t even let employees take them home once they’ve been deemed unsellable? I get the anti-dumpster-diving thing but it’s insane to me that they wouldn’t even allow an employee to take one or two home if they are already going to toss them…

How do I make a comment to someone that is not in this thread? I would like to make the holier-than-thou a-hole “Ash—-“ see this.
