A 20-year-old Palm Beach Gardens man was sentenced to 25 years in prison after being found guilty of armed fentanyl trafficking, as he faces charges in four other cases involving illicit drugs.A jury found Patrick Sanders guilty on Feb. 25, and Circuit Court Judge Sarah Willis sentenced him on Thursday. He was also convicted of being a delinquent in possession of a firearm. Sanders received 771 days of credit while in jail.He was arrested on Feb. 29, 2024, in unincorporated West Palm Beach. He had been carrying a bag of 123 white powder-filled capsules of 23 grams that tested positive for fentanyl, a synthetic opioid up to 50 times more potent than heroin. He was also unlawfully in possession of a fully loaded firearm.This case was investigated by the Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office’s Narcotics Division and prosecuted by Assistant State Attorneys Kyley Brown and Diva Casas of the Gangs, Guns and Drug Trafficking Unit.Sanders is facing charges in four other cases, which Willis is also handling.Sanders was charged with fentanyl trafficking and delinquent in possession of a firearm in 2021 when he was 16. He was arrested on March 2, two days after the other arrest. A status check on his case is set for 8:30 a.m. on May 7, after a hearing on Thursday.He is also facing three charges in three cases involving selling fentanyl and cocaine, and unlawful use of a two-way communications device.
