Hi guys we moved into this a year ago and parking cars in this area has killed the grass and I want to try and fix it.

Any advice on how to go about this? It’s a rental by the way

A rental? Save your money. Won’t be as cheap as you think to fix it.

it’s compacted, so you’d have to work on soil amendment but you also have to not keep doing the thing that caused the compaction in the first place.

are you wanting to fix it because it wasn’t like that when you moved in?

So, I recommend getting some lawn seed that is shade tolerant. You’ll need 2-3kg. Spread it evenly. Then arrange delivery of 1 cubic metre of topsoil (put it on your drive way and carefully spread it evenly over the area at a depth of 3cm. Water it twice daily 10 minutes at a time. It should take 5-7 days for germination. Keep watering it during autumn and into winter. Eventually, the grass will put roots into the sand. I also recommend you put up a plastic barrier fence around the perimeter. A good thing to do is to suspend bits of tinsel or old CDs from the branches to discourage local bird life from feeding on the seeds or seedlings. Wishing you all the best!

Grass might not grow well because of the tree shade. You could dig some compost and mulch in to loosen the soil a bit, then look into some native ground cover to make it look nicer. Baby sun rose will grow from half burying cuttings and a bit of water. In a few months you will have a lush green spot that bees and insects will love that needs no care from you.

Aerate, then spread a light layer of compost and fertilizer and grass seed. It will look better than ever
