I got into bonsai more seriously over the past year so this was my first season of repot mania. After repotting 10-15 smaller trees and transplanting a ton of smaller plants into my wooded property to let nature take control for a couple years, I was left with this stick. I bought this larger Japanese maple for (in my opinion) pretty cheap on eBay last fall, and you could tell it was in a nursery pot for years. I am learning that there is something therapeutic about sorting out the rootball on a forgotten about tree.
My goal on this one is to air layer it into 2-3 trees over the next couple years, there is no taper on it right now, so good candidate for air layering practice.
Soil was primarily bonsai jack inorganic + 20%-30% organic soil. I’ll throw some moss on it at some point soon
Container is that “poor man’s Anderson Flat” someone posted awhile back, mahiong seed starter tray on eBay. This one is 15” x 12”.
Happy weekend everybody!
