You will eventually have to remove one of the two trunks, but cutting one off right now is going to be too stressful to the tree, plus leave a wound that will take a long while to heal over. I suggest reducing the growth of one trunk by half this year, let the tree recover for a season, and then remove the rest of it next winter.

Is that a silver maple? Hard to ID with no leaves and only young bark. Maybe there are some ID experts here. If it is silver maple it’s that would make it doubly worse.
It would be harsh, and a little risky but personally I would cut off one of those leads. The tree is young and looks to be still small enough diameter that maybe it could heal over if you give it lots of love. B
