So many seedlings! Planted these March 13th. I’m planning on up potting the tomatoes to 3 inch pots today. for the tomatoes, I planted 2 seeds in one cell, when I upsize their pots should I keep them together or separate them? Beans, zucchini and okra I definitely planted too early, I was advised to toss them and reseed but I’m attached. Any advice?

(Photos 2-7 in order: hot peppers, bell peppers, eggplant; tomato, cherry tomato, collard greens; cilantro, basil, Swiss chard; parsley, romaine lettuce, kale; mix lettuce, spinach; zucchini, okra, pole beans).

Photo 8: I noticed the cotyledons on my kale are yellowing, what does this mean? Photo 9: Miss chard looks leggy and limp is she sad? Photo 10: yea these got too big too fast, I gotta do something with them soon.

Thanks guys!!

All of the things that you would or could eat the full grown leaves of (herbs, greens, lettuce, etc), you can thin by trimming and using as microgreens.

Cotyledons typically yellow and fall off once replaced by bigger leaves. That’s normal!

Wow. Are those all still in small cells? Normally I would put plants this size into the ground or they would be transplanted into 6″ or larger pots. That looks like a very very busy couple of weeks of non-stop transplanting to me.

The upside is they look great! With SOO many, dont toss/reseed instead start being hard core about thinning them. Any single plant that isnt super healthy and ‘top of class’? Cut it off at the bottom. Maybe wait till after the transplant as a bunch will go into shock when you replant them and that will help thin things out.

Your issue is soon going to be all about roots needing room. Id be selling those off or giving them away.

What in the world an I doing wrong? Started around same time, late for where I live and they look nothing like that. Have they been outside the whole time?

Most of these I’d just thin in place by snipping the extras at the soil level. As someone else said tomatoes are tough as heck and you can separate them easily and you can always find a friend who wants a free tomato plant or ten. Onions also separate super easily but I don’t see any here. Otherwise hold your breath and SNIP.

Give some away, keep some just in case of disease, but just enjoy your green thumb.

I’ve had brassicas under grow lights on heat mats since then, they are only just getting their first true leaves. That’s the stage I need them to be at, but what a huge difference to yours. Did you germinate the seeds before sowing?

How are you hardening all these off without losing your mind?

Yeah, my tip is to write everything down for me to learn.

Sell the extra starts as a fundraiser and donate funds to the community garden that they are for or if you paid for the seeds and materials, donate to whatever cause you want?
