Hi hi,
I am not an arborist. But I love trees!
My partner and I just bought a house and this tree along the edge of our lot is looking pretty bad off. I believe it is an ash tree. I think it has been totally destroyed by emerald ash borers. But I'm not sure.
Does this tree look bad off enough to warrant immediate removal? Can I leave it like this?
Any input at all would be greatly appreciated!!

I also think your tree is dead.
I also think your tree is dead.
That thing is dead as hell
Indeed. Can concur.

Oh yeah, it’s as dead as….. hm….. dead can be.
I KNOW your tree is dead
I would try and have that tree taken out sooner than later if i owned it. However, it looks close enough to the road to potentially be owned by the municipality/county, might be worth checking in with them and seeing if they would take care of it.
Dead. Dried. Seasoned. Ready to cut and burn.
Looks like damage from a borer beetle. The tree is dead. There was a recent die off of a bunch of ash in our area and the roots seemed to throw up some shoots after the die off, but there are thousands of standing dead ash across the landscape, looking just like your tree.
Good for firewood but tough to split if there is a twist.
I also choose this guy’s dead tree
Me three thinks the tree has earned the death decree.
Emerald Ash Borers strike again
It will make beautiful fire wood
Yes. Your tree is dead.
He’s dead, Jim.
I’d give it one more year just to make sure.
I am your tree: I died
That’s a nice piece of lumber
Tree was dead 2 years ago it is now currently rotting and decaying.
I like how the lower right limb is pointing at the direction it will fall.
I’m sorry for your loss. Your tree is crossing the rainbow bridge and possibly going on to become beautiful furniture. Or perhaps firewood.

No kidding!
It has ceased to be
It’s just a flesh wound!
Yeah, kiss your ash goodbye.
Dead Ash Tree Check, Emerald Ash Borer Check…
Please, don’t listen to people who tell you not to get this removed. Also, unless you’re a professional, don’t do this yourself. I am very comfortable felling trees, however, I won’t touch a Borer-infected dead Ash. The tree gets extremely brittle and has weird pockets, causing it not to fall as it should, and when it drops, most of the time, all the limbs basically explode off the tree, super fun to clean up.
Tldr: Dead Ash trees are way more dangerous than your average standing dead tree. Have a pro remove that shit

What gave it away?
Me too.
Ash borer . Best remedy? Cremation
