Does anyone know what could be going on with my gaura?
A couple weeks ago, I started noticing a couple stalks look droopy/wilted in the center of the front plant and it has spread to more stems now. The gaura planted behind seems perfectly healthy. If anything, the one behind gets slightly less sun so maybe this front one is frying up in the afternoon direct sun? But it’s weird it started in the center of the plant rather than the outer edge. I thought it might be bugs and I don’t use insecticides so I try to blast the underside with the water hose when watering to dislodge any mites, I don’t see any insects but I know they can be microscopic. I use a moisture meter to check that the ground is dry before watering. This is only her second spring planted in ground and she seemed so happy. I was pleasantly surprised by how quickly my little plants took off last summer.
I’d love to know what’s going on to help fix this, should I just cut off the bad stems? Is it a lack of nutrients? Too much or too little water? Bugs? Disease?
Or early this spring, I cut off all the crispy dried stalks and it filled in really quick, could this just be old growth and normal?

Do you think it might be getting peed on? I have a couple of blue point junipers that have just a streak of misery down it, and I’m pretty sure they’re getting peed on by dogs on their walks. 🥴
