I have this small patch of lawn in my backyard which is pretty much in shade most of the time (this photo was taken at approx 1pm today). Is there any lawn/turf that would grow with this little sun? At the moment it is patchy and muddy, would love to have something a bit nicer but might be a struggle. Any recommendations are appreciated. Thanks!

On a different but related note, what trees are those? I like that level of coverage

Sorry, but the answer is no.

I tried and tried many times in the past and failed always after one to two seasons.

You got to accept it and work with what you can (that’s what

Edit. That grass that has most success was buffalo, but I wasn’t keen on replacing it every two years.

I’ve just come back from Bunnings purchasing supplies to extend my lawn into an area around my unused chicken coop. There are lawn blends that have been formulated to grow and thrive in shady areas. I suggest you check them out and begin by over-sow areas that are looking patchy. All the best!

Have you considered having a native violet or dichondra lawn? No mow/keeps down low, likes the shade and can handle a little traffic. Native violet flowers are super cute too.

What’s wrong with the grass there?
