Hi all. I've read a lot of "dead patch of grass" posts in here, but have still had no luck bringing this patch of lawn back to life.

This strip of lawn underneath my tree has been dead since I moved into the house 18 months ago, and my attempts haven't helped much. I water for 45-60 mins 2 times a week when there is no rain, which seems to be plenty for the rest of the lawn. I've also tried weed n feed, soil wetter and nitrogen rich fertilizer, none of which have helped. The exposed soil does seem dry, but not hydrophobic.

Please let me know what I can do to help this patch! I would love to just put a whole new patch of grass in at this point, but it's a rental so not really worth my time and money.

Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated 🙂

It’s a rental and was dead when you moved in. What’s the problem?

  2. Is that the way to the front door? Could there be an old concrete pathway under the dirt?
Also if that shrub is a bottle brush, I’ve heard they have chemicals in them that limit growth of other plants.
