How big of a jar would this beautiful Wandering pond snail need? (Ampullaceana balthica) – about 2.5cm
Want to move this lovely hitchiker because the aquarium water is not good for him (soft acidic) but im wondering how big of a jar it would require and if it can be self-sustaining
I’ve found bladder snails do better but yes this snail should sustain in a jar just fine. They reproduce asexually so you’ll have more in 3 to 6 weeks.
I would want a half gallon jar. Boil a stick 15 minutes to kill off fungi and such. 20% substrate, a stone or three, moss, and a plant like pearlweed. Be sure to leave enough empty room for gas exchange.
