about my channel and its videos
– – – – –
My channel is about the renovation and restoration of an old stone house on a hill in Catalunya (North East of Spain). The house is near the Costa Brava and has magnificent views of the forest around it and the Mediterranean Sea.
The house has many beautiful old features, including its stone walls, vaulted ceilings, ancient terracotta tiles and many quirky parts added over the centuries. At the moment, I am working on the house on my own as I try to turn it into a dream home in harmony with the nature and culture that surrounds it.
The house is not in France or Italy and is not a Chateau or Cabin, but I watch and am inspired by channels that are. Especially Martijn Doolaard and Dan Preston’s Escape to Rural France. I love Martijn’s style, philosophy and cinematography and Dan’s energy, humour and ambition. I’m trying to include some of these attributes in my videos.

Thank you for answering my question! Much appreciated!
I just came across you yesterday, been binging and have just caught up to this today. Nice. Thanks for the details.
i think this is a great project; the house is just exquisite and your plans for it are really respectful to it. lovely all around! great channel π
It's a real shame the house doesn't have a basement. However, a three-tiered terrace wall will certainly be a welcome addition! I suggest using the first tier as a 20-meter-long pool so you can swim a few laps. The next tier could then be used for stabilization, and in the lowest tier you could cleverly insert a long bungalow apartment and perhaps a workshop. Best regards.π
Thanks for the in depth questions & answer, its great to see where you are going with this fantastic project. Much appreciated π
That was really interesting Hugo!
Thanks Hugo! π

Thank you! Now I understand why the accent was familiar to me. Thanks again. Keep up with the good work. It will look stunning when finished, no doubt about it.

Thank you for the typically systematic approach. Happy Easter. π₯
Bones festes de Pasqua!
Strange that keeping the existing garage was allowed, but moving it to another part of your property is not allowed. Do these people not understand how an economy flourishes? Diversity generates wealth, and that needs space! A garage to keep cars and big tools / toys safe. A basement to fill with entertainment, hobbies and storage. An out building as art studio or greenhouse or workshop. The more you restrict what people can do, (short of harming others or the environment), the poorer your culture will be.
Thanks for ur comprehensive answers to all our questions π

I liked your response about finances coming from the channel.
I went back and watched episode #1 again. Superfluous to say what a difference a year and a team makes.
Respect for all you hard work as both brains and brawn of the Operation.π
Great video! I love seeing the gradual transformations. It must be a wonderful feeling to see things that started as creative ideas come to fruition!!
I really enjoy your videos and following you on this incredible journey. I truly appreciate how clearly you speakβit really helps people who arenβt native English speakers understand you well.
I have a few questions that I havenβt seen/noticed.
I live in Canada so Iβm not sure this applies to you. Have you heard of geothermal heating? The only downside is the upfront cost. It might be something to consider
Will your shed, if memory serves me correctly, be near your pool? Have you considered a shower and changing area there?
Other channels I follow bring up restrictions such as not being able to change window sizes, adding windows, same with doors. What restrictions do you have on your building?
And lastly, will the new puppy impact Billieβs on site duties?
HUGO, just TWO things:
1. Your house is practically perfect in every possible way: the location, its placement on the land, the stone walls, what you're doing with it, and I could go on for quite a while. It's a dream…
2. I only think I would do something different: the height of the sills, the window surrounds, should never exceed 40/50 cm. One should always be able to enjoy the view from inside, whether sitting at a table, on a sofa, in bed in the bedroom, or at a desk. It's very easy to correct because all you have to do is remove part of the wall. I prefer to say this now rather than when everything is finished (I've sometimes been helped in my projects by similar comments made at the right time).
Hi Hugo
I look forward to your weekly updates ! π
Are you considering (are you allowed to have) solar power and a heat pump ?
I live in Cheshire and got rid of gas 2 1/2 years ago
I have 10x 300W solar panels and an Air Source Heat Pump
Since then, my average monthly energy costs are about 120 GBP – and that includes charging fully electric car
I would thoroughly recommend it, and I would wager the Spanish sunshine would put you in even better stead than the north west of England !
Happy to chat it through if you wish
Mike
Im a recent subscriber and yet to watch all the earlier videos. This Q and A sure gives a lot of background. Thanks for this great idea
Are you able to divulge why several of the roof videos were taken down in December? I gotta admit, the roof looks a bit wonky, so I'm not surprised there's 'discussions' behind the scenes
The stonework looks beautiful and I love the new front door π
