Gardening skills that have withered or never been learned will be taught at an upcoming weekend workshop in Kelowna.

Land consultant Kenton Zerbin will tell people how to turn their yards into productive, food-growing spaces. He patterns his ideas on the ‘Victory Gardens’ that were popular among Canadians during the Second World War.

“There’s a reason Victory Gardens worked,” Zerbin says in a release. “They gave people a sense of agency. They allowed everyday households to contribute to something bigger while also supporting themselves.”

The weekend workshop will help participants understand how their property works, from sunlight to water flow, and then make the most of it in a way to supports food, reduces maintenance and changes their daily lifestyle.

Participants leave with a personalized plan for their yard, giving them a starting point to take action immediately. Cost to attend the April 17-19 workshop, being held at the Okanagan College campus in Kelowna, is $697. See kentonzerbin.com for more information.
