Does it look like there is any hope for this avocado pit that’s recently been planted in soil. Was in water under my cabinet previously and I trimmed the stem which was very long with no leaves.

Why did you trim the stem? This will not survive because you cut off the only means for it to photosynthesize. Also that’s mulch not soil
Did the leaves fall off or they were never made? You may have left it with a death sentence. What was your thought here? Was the trunk dead? Like dry? Was it green on the inside when you cut it?
