  1. Those umbrellas are not really japanese cultural heritage but by they were invented and are still use by the chinese they are what we call oil paper umbrellas. This is lack of information. Japan copied a lot of things from China specialy during the tang dynasty. Embassors came to china and they studied chinese culture they brought back to japan tons of things : Sashimono or the art of wood construction without nails, the architecture is almost exactly the same as the tang one. the hanfu which became the kimono, the oil paper umbrella, the tatami. By the way in past history Japanese believed that chinese only used tatamis while they also widely used chairs. To this day chinese people still make fun of japanese for sitting on the floor. If you like japan they you would love ancient china specially han and tang dynastys culture.

  2. There's a reason for that, it's because mass produced western umbrellas work, japanese umbrellas are made of paper and if it's not oiled properly they turn into wet paper as soon as the water touches them, if they're oiled properly to resist water it quickly deteriorates the paper and they won't last, plus they take months and expert craftsmanship to be made and are very expensive, whereas western ones are far cheaper, they're made of steel and waterproof fabric. On top of that, those umbrellas are not originally japanese, they're one of the many japanese things that originally come from china

  3. Careful with how you treat that umbrella, bro. If it's 99 years old and didn't like how you treated it, it might be a little angry with you….

  4. You can just see that these umbrellas won't give the same level of protection a modern umbrella can. Stop with this whining.

  5. For a Japanese centric channel most likely ran by AI, you seem to mix up lots of other Asian cultures for Japanese things

  6. Let's not forget that these are disappearing because they're expensive and made of paper. PAPER.

  7. bro ,the video is chinese not japanese.. stop always thinking that other people's things belong to other people, besides this umbrella culture is originally from China, there is nothing wrong if I admit this video is from China

  8. Hi! This is misinformation. These umbrellas come from china since the video is from a Chinese influencer who sells and promotes those specific umbrellas. They are called 油纸伞, yóu zhǐ sǎn. Please educate yourselves and don’t fall bait to these videos!

  9. So ignorant! This type of umbrellas were originated in China. Even the characters inside the umbrella shown in this video are Chinese characters. This type of umbrellas are still widely seen in China nowadays. Why is it fading in Japan? well. Stolen things/culture are hard to be kept by the thief forever.
