So this is our current situation in both our front and back yard – I’m not sure what that more yellow colored weed is – but looks like it may be attached to the clover? I don’t know. I haven’t done research on it quite yet.

If you were explaining to a five year old what to do in this situation – how would you explain the best way to grow grass here. Remove all the weeds first? Then seeds? How long after spraying weed killer can you plant grass seed, etc. thanks in advance!

Cut it dirt low then aerate and seed it

If it has clover in it its definitely greener then a monocultured lawn with no environmental benifits.
But if you want the 1800 mono cultured lawn you can throw turf builder on it it kill what exists. Get a 13 13 13 fertilizer topsoil an seed… scalp it[ cut it down low] add sand an re seed.

This has been a horrible year for my lawn. It’s embarrassing how dead it is. I just ordered 24 plugs of Perennial Peanut I’m going to stick in the worst spots and see what happens. I’d post a photo of mine but I deleted all of them. Talk is cheap, isn’t it? About the quote the grass being greener.
