This post had me scratch my head and wonder just how deep does axillary meristem tissue sit in a cactus. Came across this lit review that is full of papers concerning cactus morphology, and figured I’d share it for other curious folks.
All I’ve read so far is that axillary meristem is typically at least 3mm deep. Might be neat to get some longitudinal sections of trich areoles stained and measured sometime 🙂
