I’ve planted this eucalyptus to bring some shade during afternoon sun on this west facing window. Is this safe in the long run? There’s also a retaining wall on the other side.

It’s growing really fast and don’t know if it’ll be a hazard soon enough.

Should be an interesting thread, guessing maybe 3.2 meters from the house, a little further away would of been better, i suppose worst case in about a decade you will have to trim every 2 or 3 years to keep the tree suppressed and maintain height.

Yes, totally fine. Enjoy the tree!

Eucalyptus have shallow root systems and brittle branches so not the best trees to put near a home. They can also cause problems with the concrete. You might not have problems for many years but it might be worth researching what is better in that spot to suit your purpose. They’re beautiful trees but there’s probably a better choice for that situation.

Even if it’s safe regarding root systems etc at that distance at the moment it may not be the case when the tree grows. There will be lots of leaves in the gutter; not to mention the need to trim any branches that grow too close to house and the risk of heavy winds if any in your area causing the tree or branches to cause damage. If you are going ahead with this, I suggest think it through so you don’t regret in the future.

That’s gonna be a big tree, should plant something smaller next to your house. Also these trees a notorious for dropping limbs.

Kill it now before anyone notices. Most councils won’t let you prune or remove when it gets big and starts causing all those problems.
