If you cut it down repeatedly and it comes back every time, chances are it’s a hackberry. 🙂
They really can take some serious punishment, and they are excellent, drought tolerant native trees that are wonderful at supporting wildlife and butterflies. You can even eat the hackberries, if you’re so inclined. They’re best in late autumn and early winter, and can be eaten straight off the tree, but most people make hackberry milk out of them.
