What’s this on my acacia cognata and do I need to fix it?
Some strange soft white growth on the shaded parts of my acacia cognata plant. Is anyone able to ID and suggest a remedy? It’s planted in a border next to some exposed agg that only gets sun from the east.
Mine had that last year – it’s cottony scale and I didn’t think it was doing any harm until I noticed all the falling leaves! Poor coggy.
All you need to do it squirt the scale off with a hose (jet spray or finger in the end of the hose for pressure). Get as much as you can off. Then keep an eye out so you can squirt them off before they take over the whole plant.
My plant recovered its leaves and the scale hasn’t come back, although I’m told it’s likely to.

I have similar on a climbing plant, no idea what it is
Cottony cushion scale. The [NSW DPI](https://www.dpi.nsw.gov.au/agriculture/horticulture/citrus/content/insects-diseases-disorders-and-biosecurity/insect-pest-factsheets/cottony-cushion-scale) has some good advice, and there are some more links at the bottom of that page. To start, I’d give it a prune to improve airflow.
